Steps to a Growth Mindset

Life always presents us with the unexpected. Change is inevitable!

I didn't realize I would be delving into the path I'm on today as I write to you from my newly designed blog. But here I am, living the unexpected and facing new challenges each day. As my previous career as the CEO of an independent school had me working at all hours, I hadn't considered the toll it took on all aspects of my life. It turns out that a lot was missing in terms of self-care. Now, I get to explore that area again.

But while the job of a CEO combined with being a mother of two lively boys was a huge undertaking, it's something that I managed to do because of my mindset.

If it hadn't been for the five strategies I'm about to share with you, I would never have made it through my first year of being a CEO.

When we step back, we can see the honest landscape of our lives and the stories we keep telling ourselves. But often, the stories in our heads are untrue. We say things to ourselves as an excuse, or so we can stay stuck. That's why these strategies are so important. Simply changing your mind can change your life.

We have control over what we wish to believe and achieve.

My challenge for you today is to see which of these five mindset shifts you can take on. Try one on for size and see if your life improves!

5 Growth Mindset Strategies That’ll Transform Your Life

1. Be Yourself and Know Thyself!

Know who you are and what you stand for. Your values are hugely influential in your decision-making processes. They have an effect on your decisions, both consciously and sub-consciously. Not knowing what you stand for makes the multitude of daily choices and decisions more of an arduous task.

Don't forget that the results we create come straight from the decisions and choices we make, so choose carefully!

"The very best thing you can do for the whole world is to make the most of yourself."

~Wallace D. Wattles

2. You are in charge of You!

Remember that the words and language you use are choices. How you treat and interact with others, and how you perceive the world are a direct reflection of you as well. Nobody but you decides how you will act, speak, interact, and react.

"You're in charge of your mind. You can help it grow by using it the right way!"
~Carol Dweck

3. Persevere and work through problems!

Life is inevitably full of challenges and issues. This is what makes us grow. When you see an obstacle with a growth mindset, you ask this: how can I solve this? Is the obstacle or situation able to teach me something? Can I grow as an individual?

How you think about problems and persevere through them is the most crucial aspect of continual human development.

"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."

  ~ Albert Einstein

4. Do your very best

To work towards excellence doesn't mean you'll get everything right immediately. Consistent effort and hard work are required. Knowing that you're trying your best at all times will allow you to develop your potential and get better.

"Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of being."

~John Wooden

5. Forge Ahead and Keep Going!

Once you've taken the courage to start something meaningful you must continue to forge on. Keep the reason 'why' you've chosen to do something at the forefront of everything you do. This way, you'll continue to stay motivated and persevere through the tough times. You'll rejoice in the good times and remember why it was essential for you too in the first place.

"It doesn't matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop."

~Confucius

My sincere hope is that you continue to dream.

Moving toward your dreams, you must make a concerted effort to know yourself. You must know what you want in life and why. This will become your driving force and the reason you are taking consistent action.

One final bonus tip: plan for the growth you desire in life!

Do you already use one of these strategies every day?

Which growth mindset strategy do you already use? And which do you think you’d like to start adopting in your daily life? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you!
